Inoculated against American Foulbrood (AFB) using The Dalan vaccine.
The Dalan vaccine technology exposes queen bees to inactive (i.e., “dead”) bacteria, which enables the larvae hatched in the hive to resist infection. The first honeybee vaccine to be approved by the CFIA to combat against AFB infection. The vaccine is safe, and suitable for use in organic agriculture with no negative impact on hive health or honey.
Queens raised under The Bee Spot breeding program using the Ontario Resistant Honey Bee Selection (ORHBS) criterias. These queens were grafted this year, right here on the farm, from mothers that have successfully wintered 2 years in Canada, have shown to be strong builders, good honey producers, and with gentle temperaments. The Bee Spot queens are marked, mated and caged with attendants, ready to be placed into a queenless hive right away.
